Holy cow! Participants in the Northeast Florida Lionfish Blast tournament have already brought in close to 1200 invasive lionfish. We went out on a scouting trip this past weekend in preparation for a filming trip later this month. We decided to put a video teaser clip together of the project with the footage captured this past weekend. It is pretty intense.
We have a big trip planned later this month where we will be taking several skilled lionfish hunters and researchers offshore. Fish caught will be used in research and eaten; in fact we will probably make lionfish ceviche on the boat. We are preparing to bring in a ton of lionfish and will have our cameras rolling. Stayed tuned for our feature story.
For those not familiar with this epidemic. Lionfish have taken over the western Atlantic, the Caribbean, and the Gulf of Mexico. They are causing havoc depleting resources for the environmentally and economically native species. We are actively trying to remove as many of these fish as possible in an attempt to lessen their threat to our waterways.
