Jacksonville Reef Update, Floyds Folley

Divers visited the Floyds Folley Reef area this past weekend to check on current conditions of the reefs in this permitted area. There were some rumors of damage since the last hurricane. We first visited the John C. Leone reef and eager search for the statue of Jesus. The statue was found laying face down but intact thank goodness. We hope to be able to re-erect the statue in the near future and are brainstorming potential plans as this post is being written.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

We also investigated a reef created of recycled concrete material in 2011 and it appeared to be thriving. A great diversity of marine was observed (Video clip 1 below). Divers Jack Leone and Joe Kistel also made sure to remove an entanglement hazard they found on the reef. See the vid clip 2 below.
