The Casablanca vessel was intentionally sunk during the early 1970's several miles north of where she currently resides. According to the Charlie Hamacker of the JOSFC, weather was bad the day of the sinking and the crew left the scene prior to confirming the ship was on the seafloor. Trapped air in the hull must have caused the vessel to float away in the water column. In fact,the Casablanca was actually missing several years after the deployment until she was re-discovered where she resides today (several miles south of the intended reef area).
