West Marine participates with TISIRI Reef Clean Up projects. Reefs both artificial and natural are utilized by humans both for recreation and commercial purposes. Like anything used by humans, reefs can benefit from occasional maintenance. Over time, debris such as trash and discarded fishing can accumulate on reefs. Fishing line becomes an entanglement hazard posing risk for reef inhabitants.
TISIRI, with resource support from West Marine, performs reef clean up objectives in which trash and fishing line are removed from the reefs. TISIRI divers visit specifically targeted reefs sites and harvest as much trash and line as safely possible. Cleaning reef sites in this fashion removes potential hazards for marine life allowing the reef to better serve as the productive ecosystem it is meant to be.
